West Coast Working with Municipalities
West Coast staff are increasingly working with municipal councilors and staff in program areas from oil and gas to smart growth. To reach a broader municipal audience, West Coast presented a display during the trade show of the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) Convention in Vancouver in September. UBCM is attended by over 1,000 local government delegates from BC.
Over two days, Barb, Deborah, Karen, and Jessica talked with municipal councilors and senior staff from all over the province. Municipal officials are concerned with everything from the cost of development to changes in the forestry tenure system in BC. And staff also received kudos for West Coast’s great work. “We were surprised and delighted that over the two days several municipal councilors approached us and congratulated us on our work,” stated Karen Campbell. “We are clearly having an impact in municipalities across the province.”
