Smart Bylaws Guide – Compact Complete Communities – Burnaby

The City of Burnaby’s first strategic Official Community Plan direction is for a more complete community. This includes improving transportation services and more opportunities to cycle or walk, with a goal of achieving a ratio of one job in the municipality for every person in the labour force. The complete communities vision builds on the City’s development framework of four Town Centres, urban villages, and neighbourhood service centres designed to increase the diversity and self-sufficiency of the municipality.

Zoning that addresses these goals includes:

  • Neighbourhood Commercial District (C-1) section 301
  • Community Commercial District (C-2) section 302
  • Urban Villages Commercial Districts (C-8 and C-9) sections 308 and 309
