Get Copies of Land Ownership Documents
There can be dozens of types of documents relating to the ownership of a single piece of land -- mortgages, liens, wills, options to purchase, leases, legal judgments, environmental cleanup orders, and many more. (more info on ownership of land) Please note that before you can finalize any legal changes regarding ownership of specific land, you will have to have a thorough search done by a lawyer's office.
- To get started you need a copy of the Certificate of Title.(example)
- To get it, you will need to know the "legal description" of the land. (example)
- To get the legal description, look at a tax notice for the land. (example)
The tax notice also shows the Land Registry District. Each District has a B.C. Land Title Office that contains Certificates of Title.
Go to the right Land Title Office, give the legal description, pay the fee, and get a copy of the Certificate of Title and all the attachments.
