The nomination period is now closed.
West Coast Environmental Law is pleased to announce the
finalists for the Dr. Andrew Thompson Awards, honouring British Columbians
who have made an exceptional contribution to the protection of the
environment.
The award, established through an endowment by the family of the late Dr.
Thompson, will be given in two categories this year: one for Institutional
Leader, an individual who has made a difference through environmental
policy, legislative or regulatory processes, and who is committed to
ensuring that a variety of views are heard in the decision-making process;
the second, for Community Leader, an individual whose initiative and
actions have led to greater environmental protection and sustainability by
diverse means and through raising awareness and participation in
environmental policy.
Finalists: Institutional Leader
- Cheeying Ho, Vancouver. Executive Director of Smart Growth BC.
- Calvin Sandborn, Victoria. Legal Director, Environmental Law Centre,
University of Victoria.
- William (Bill) Turner, Victoria. Chair, The Land Conservancy.
Finalists: Community Leader
- Edith Tobe, Squamish. Project Manager/Executive Director, Squamish
River Watershed Society.
- John Bergenske, Cranbrook. Wildsight.
- Keith and Bernadette Wyton, Port Alberni. Citizens’ Stewardship
Coalition, Save Our Valley Alliance.
The
winners of the Dr. Andrew Thompson award will be announced at West Coast Environmental Law’s Annual
Gala taking place on November 30th, 2006 at the Vancouver Rowing
