Law, power and environmental decision-making... West Coast ED & Senior Counsel Jessica Clogg joined Stephen Owen, PC, QC, and EDRF lawyer Glen Bell led a lively panel discussion at the Alternative Dispute Rresolution Institute of Canada AGM and National Conference last week that traced the rise (and demise circa 2001) of ‘multi-stakeholder’ land use planning tables in BC. Since 2001 we have seen ground-breaking land use outcomes where First Nations and conservation groups have been able to create ‘extraordinary’ leverage – the Great Bear Rainforest is a case in point –while deregulation and closing of opportunities for citizen engagement have been become the norm.
