Karla (she/her/hers) is a Mennonite settler who was born and raised on Treaty One Territory (Southern Manitoba). She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences with a concentration in Intercultural Studies and recently completed her third year in the Joint Canadian Common Law and Indigenous Legal Orders program at the University of Victoria (JD/JID).
During her undergrad, Karla worked at a small Community Shared Agriculture farm and became passionate about food justice, ecological sustainability, and Indigenous food sovereignty. This work led to a desire to learn more about Indigenous Laws, leading to her enrollment in the JD/JID program. During her law degree, Karla has had the privilege of working with and learning from Indigenous Nations and governing bodies through the Environmental Law Clinic and a JD/JID Field Study.
This summer, when not at the office, you can find Karla spending time with friends on the beach or subjecting her prairie legs to mountain hikes. She is looking forward to spending her summer learning and working at WCEL.
