Maryann joined West Coast Environmental Law in 2017 as our Marine Scientist. She is excited to be bringing together the scientific information needed to make sound policy decisions and contribute to strengthening laws to protect the marine environment on the coast of British Columbia.
Maryann studied Marine Biology at the University of Victoria and completed her master's in Marine Management at Dalhousie University. Her graduate research focused on management practices in the Pacific salmon fishery on BC’s beautiful north coast. Her goal is to combine her passion for marine biology and ecology with conservation, management and policy solutions.
Maryann is inspired by exploring and learning in the natural world, both above and underwater. As a scientific diver she has worked on projects supporting marine conservation research and education on the BC coast, and on coral reefs in the Republic of Kiribati and the Philippines.
