West Coast welcomes a group of summer law students each year, with positions running from early May until mid-August. Students work closely with staff lawyers. Student work is primarily legal research and writing in support of current West Coast activities, but students are integrated into the day-to-day life of our office, including staff meetings and educational opportunities. Students typically also participate in client meetings (where appropriate), may be assigned to report on court proceedings, and may participate in legal education and public outreach activities.
Our summer student positions offer compensation commensurate with our status as a not-for-profit organization. Positions are typically based in our Vancouver office, though remote or hybrid work options are also possible.
West Coast Environmental Law aims to promote equity and challenge discrimination. We recognize the value of diversity in the workplace and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, races, national origins, gender identities, sexual orientations, religions, abilities and beliefs. We strongly encourage applicants from equity-deserving groups, specifically Indigenous and racialized people, members of the LGBTQIA2S+, trans and gender-diverse communities, women, and people living with a disability, chronic illness and/or neurodiversity to self-identify so that we can prioritize your application.
