In May 2026, the federal government published a discussion paper proposing sweeping changes to environmental laws in order to weaken or remove legal protections and fast-track decisions for major projects. West Coast, along with 14 other leading environmental organizations, submitted this response explaining the risks of the proposals and recommending how decisions about major projects would be made more efficient while strengthening environmental protections for communities, nature and the climate.
