At a time when the principles of de-regulation, privatization, and downsizing have captured government agendas across the country, the tragic events taking place in Walkerton serve as important reminders of the human cost of such policies. We can avoid similar tragedies, but only if the governments we elect are willing to exercise their legislative power to protect health, our communities, and the ecology.
