Rin (Allie) Ho | 何曼筠 (she/they) is an immigrant from Taiwan born on Duwamish territory (Seattle) and is grateful to have grown up in the lands of the Semiahmoo, kʷikʷəƛ̓əm, and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw Nations.
Rin seeks to enact change locally and globally, and began organizing with environmental groups such as Sustainabiliteens Vancouver, Climate Strike Canada, and organically-formed campaigns for justice. They worked on projects such as declaring Climate Emergencies, anti-Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion, racial justice, and educational policy reform at the municipal and provincial level.
While studying Environmental Studies B.A. at Amherst College in the Nonotuck lands of Massachusetts and abroad in Bhutan, Nepal, Jordan, and Chile, Rin was exposed to the various intersections of peoples’ movements and the fight for a just life. They pursued research topics encompassing political violence and people’s Dreams of Decolonization around the world—research that they are eager to continue.
Before coming to WCEL, Rin has worked across the fields of decolonization, education, research, intersectional justice, and service with organizations such as Earthjustice, Americorps, Greenpeace, Liyang Network, Sunrise Movement, and as an instructor at Yale University. Rin also develops the program Sovereign at the nonprofit Arkpraxis.
Having lived in many different areas of Turtle Island, Rin is committed to applying the fruits of their learning; roots planted by the various people around the world that have supported her. As their Mapuche chosen-abuelita says, “La responsibilidad de conocimiento es ensañar. | The responsibility of knowledge is to teach.”
Outside of work, Rin is an aspiring jeweller, mixed-media artist, a cultural anthropology fanatic, polyglot in training, and a once-upon-a-time child-prodigious musician.
