Russell Chiong

Russell (he/him) is honoured to join the Access to Justice team and support work furthering environmental justice at West Coast Environmental Law. He is a Cantonese settler born and raised on unceded xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Skxwú7mesh, and səlil̓wətaʔɬ territories, where his appreciation for the environment and our beyond human neighbours was shaped by this meeting point of the forest, river, and sea. Russell sees environmental justice as deeply intertwined with social justice, and with the recognition and revitalization of Indigenous laws and ways of being.

Environmental Injunctions: What You Need to Know

Many of our supporters have been asking about injunctions as they have prominently featured in environmental cases, including the Trans Mountain Expansion, Coastal GasLink, and Fairy Creek. In these contexts, injunctions have been used to criminalize Indigenous land defenders and protect corporations causing environmental harm – all in the name of private profit.

Apply to the EDRF

We recommend that all interested applicants contact the Access to Justice team before filling out an application form. If we determine that you meet the criteria and are eligible to apply for an EDRF grant, we will help you determine your funding stage and invite you to submit an application. We maintain a roster of lawyers willing to take on EDRF cases and can provide referrals upon request.
